ABOUT THE CONFERENCE

About AES 2022

Annual ECOFI Symposium, or commonly known as AES, provides a scholarly platform for academics and practitioners to present and publish the latest research findings related to the knowledge of economics, finance, banking, and risk management. Since its first inception in 2014, AES has managed to provide opportunities for researchers to share and advance their scholarly work, as well as to establish potential research links for further potential collaboration. Each submission in AES will be reviewed by an excellent scientific committee who has been carefully selected based on their track records in research and top-tier publications.

AES has collaborated with various intuitions coming from many backgrounds in making the conference as one of the inaugural events organized under ECOFI. These institutions are Kedah State Economic Development Division, Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB), Japan Foundations, Institut Tadbiran Awam Negara (INTAN), and Labuan Bulletin of International Business and Finance (LBIBF), among others. These collaborations have shown that AES is not just relevant to academics but also to the industry players as well as the policymakers.

The last AES (AES 2021) which was held on 28 July 2021, attracted 54 scholarly papers. The presenters came from various background and countries. Among the 54 presenters, 19 presenters were non-UUM presenters that came from both local and foreign universities as well as non-academic presenters (INTAN). This AES was officiated by the Minister of the Prime Minister’s Department for Economic Affairs, Dato’ Sri Mustapa Mohamed.

This year’s conference, the 8th Annual ECOFI Symposium (AES 2022) is proudly organized by Economic and Financial Policy Institute (ECOFI) under the School of Economics, Finance and Banking (SEFB), Universiti Utara Malaysia. Due to the current uncertainty of COVID-19 pandemic, this one-day conference will be held virtually via Cisco Webex application on 18 October 2022 (Tuesday).

With the chosen theme “Sustainability in Turbulent Times: Resilience & Reinvention”, AES 2022 serves as a great platform for academics and practitioners to present and share the findings of their studies especially on topics related to the sustainability in turbulence times following the COVID-19 pandemic that has hit the world since January 2020. Indeed, effective policies to recover from the health crisis are necessary and these policies must be designed based on the output of relevant research carried by academics and practitioners. In addition, it also provides an opportunity for academics and practitioners to discuss and exchange ideas pertaining to current research issues, best practices, and practical experience gathered in all areas of economics. finance, banking and risk management.

Conference Objectives

• To provide a platform for academics and researchers to share the latest research findings and innovations in the field of economics, finance, banking, and risk management;

• To bridge the gap between knowledge and practice by assembling academicians, industry practitioners, policy makers, and parties related to the economics, finance, banking, and risk management field where ideas and views can be exchanged through knowledge and experience sharing;

• To provide opportunities for local and international participants to build a wider academic network and enable the expansion of international cooperation in academic activities such as students and staff mobility programs, conferences collaboration, and research & publications.
