The meeting was also attended by the Head of Government Relations Division, CIMB Bank Berhad, Mr. Rosman Nordin; Mr. Akmal Hisham Aziz, Area Commercial Manager at CIMB Bank Berhad; UUM Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International), Prof. Dr. Hassan Ali and senior UUM officials.
At the meeting, the Minister of Education II expressed his desire to see public universities establish collaboration with the industry. He also viewed the cooperation between UUM and CIMB as a venture that has brought about positive outcomes to the UUM banking and finance programmes.
In the meeting, UUM expressed its desire to establish yet another collaborative venture with CIMB that is the setting up of the UUM-CIMB Finance and Banking Research Institute. The idea of setting up such an institute was the result of many collaborative ventures between UUM and CIMB through the ‘CIMB Chair’.
The minister also called upon UUM and CIMB to expand cooperation and jointly explore the opportunities that exist and expressed hope that the Chief Executive Officer of CIMB would spend at least 30 hours a year lecturing at UUM.
Meanwhile, the Vice- Chancellor said that, with the establishment of the institute, UUM would become the 'back office' to CIMB as a result both parties would receive mutual benefits.
