UUM WINS GOLD AT ITEX 2017
UUM ONLINE:Kuala Lumpur - 'MyOPPIDeX: Malaysia Oil Palm Plantation Investment Decision Support System', a product by a UUM research team, won the gold medal at the 28th International Invention, Innovation & Technology Exhibition (ITEX'17), which was held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), recently.
ITEX is an annual event organised by the Malaysian Invention and Design Society (MINDS), and ITEX 2017 saw the registration of over 1,000 entries, research products, from over 22 countries such as China, Germany, Indonesia, Iraq, South Korea, Poland, Russia, and Saudi Arabia, to name but a few.
'MyOPPIDeX: Malaysia Oil Palm Plantation Investment Decision Support System', or just ‘MyOPPIDeX’, is the product of a collaborative effort by a team of lecturers from the School of Economics, Finance and Banking (SEFB) and the School of Quantitative Sciences (SQS), led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Shri Dewi Applanaidu, together with Dr. Norhaslinda Zainal Abidin and M Zabid M Faeid.
MyOPPIDeX is expected to benefit all stakeholders in the palm oil industry, especially small-scale farmers, private estates and the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB).
Apart from the purposes of participating in product innovation competitions, being involved in programmes such as this is one of the strategies to help increase the registration of intellectual property and the commercialisation of UUM R&D products with industry of potential.
