DPM LAUNCHED NAJIBNOMICS BOOK PUBLISHED BY UUM PRESS

The latest book published by UUM Press titled Najibnomics: Transforming Malaysia to a High-Income Nation, written by Dr. Irwan Shah Zainal Abidin from UUM?s School of Economics, Finance and Banking was launched by the Deputy Prime Minister, YAB Dato? Seri Diraja Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC), Kuala Lumpur on January 4, 2016. The author of the book, Dr. Irwan Shah and the director of UUM Press Dr. Ram Al Jaffri who was representing UUM Vice Chancellor, attended the book launch. The team from UUM Press also opened a counter to promote the book at the same event.

The launching of the book was in conjunction with the 2015 National Book Award and Scholars appreciation ceremony organized by Yayasan Pembangunan Buku Negara (YPBN). The event was attended by people from both public and private sectors and those in the Malaysian book industry.

The book Najibnomics attempts to understand Najibnomics ? economic policies advocated by the sixth Prime Minister of Malaysia, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Abdul Razak, since he helmed office on April 3, 2009. Najibnomics refers to a new approach to Malaysia?s economic development which is typified by three main characteristics: knowledge, innovation and freedom. It is a set of strategies, programmes and measures meant to transform Malaysia into a high-income and developed nation by the year 2020. This book analyses Najibnomics in action, or rather attempts to problematise Najibnomics at the level of its implementation. Through Najibnomics, the Malaysian government strives to keep the momentum of a sustainable growth trajectory, to enhance the well-being of the rakyat (people) and ensure the country gets out of the ?middle-income trap? to become a high-income and developed economy by the year 2020.
